Understanding Tongue-Tie in Children
Tongue-tie, also called ankyloglossia, happens when the band of tissue beneath the tongue is unusually short, tight, or positioned in a way that limits tongue movement. For some children, restricted mobility may affect feeding, speech-related movements, oral hygiene, or other everyday functions.
At Crossroads Pediatric Dentistry, we evaluate how your child’s tongue moves and functions before recommending treatment. A frenectomy may be considered when the restriction is contributing to a functional concern and treatment is appropriate for your child’s individual needs.
