Tooth Extractions in Acworth & Dallas, GA

Trusted Pediatric and Family Dental Care for Growing Smiles

Understanding Why a Baby Tooth May Need to Be Removed

Extractions are sometimes recommended when a baby tooth is blocking the path of a permanent one, has severe decay that can’t be restored, or is affected by trauma or infection. In some cases, a simple baby tooth removal can prevent pain, crowding, or complications down the road.

We always explore every other option first, but when an extraction is the healthiest step, we’ll talk you through it and answer every question — no surprises, no pressure.

Your Child’s Comfort Comes First

From the moment you walk through our doors, your child’s well-being is our top priority. We use age-appropriate explanations to help kids understand what’s happening, and we create a calm, reassuring atmosphere throughout the entire visit. Most extractions are quick and done under local anesthesia to ensure comfort.

Sedation options are coming soon for children who need extra help staying calm. Either way, we’re here to make sure your child feels safe and cared for every step of the way.

Thoughtful Care, Never Rushed Decisions

At Crossroads Pediatric Dentistry, extractions are never our first choice. We always prioritize saving your child's natural tooth whenever possible, whether through a filling, a crown, or another treatment option. However, if a tooth is causing pain, damaging nearby teeth, or interfering with healthy oral development, removal may be the best solution.

Every extraction recommendation is made with care and backed by a full evaluation of your child’s needs. We believe parents deserve to feel confident, informed, and involved at every step, which is why we take time to explain all available options before making any decisions.

Gentle, Compassionate Care for Tooth Extractions

At Crossroads Pediatric Dentistry, we approach extractions with compassion and care. Whether a tooth is severely decayed, infected, or affecting alignment, we make the process as gentle and stress-free as possible.

Our team uses kid-friendly explanations and provides clear aftercare instructions to support quick healing, with sedation options coming soon. We’re committed to ensuring every child feels safe, supported, and confident throughout their visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

We want you to feel comfortable, informed, and confident before your visit. Here are answers to some of the most common questions our patients ask.

A tooth extraction may be recommended if your child has a tooth that is severely decayed or damaged and cannot be saved. Other reasons include baby teeth that are not falling out on their own and are blocking the eruption of permanent teeth, overcrowding before orthodontic treatment, or an infection that has not responded to other treatments.

No, the procedure is designed to be as comfortable as possible. We use local anesthesia to completely numb the area and can offer nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, to help your child relax. Our team is trained to ensure that your child feels safe and at ease throughout the entire visit.

Most extractions are quick and can be completed in about 15 to 30 minutes. If multiple teeth are being removed or if the tooth is impacted, the process might take a little longer. We will provide a time estimate before the appointment based on your child’s specific needs.

After the procedure, we will place gauze over the site and ask your child to gently bite down to help stop any bleeding. For the rest of the day, it’s best to stick with soft foods, avoid drinking through straws, and keep physical activity light. Do not brush directly over the extraction site for the first day. We will send you home with detailed aftercare instructions.

Most children recover within a few days. They may experience some mild soreness, but it typically improves quickly. If needed, you can manage any discomfort with over-the-counter children’s pain relievers, following the dosage instructions we provide.
