We recommend that your child see a pediatric dentist within six months of their first tooth appearing, or no later than their first birthday. Early visits help establish healthy habits and catch potential issues before they start.
A pediatric dentist completes dental school and then two to three additional years of specialty training specifically in treating infants, children, adolescents and often those with special health care needs. This training includes child development, behavior guidance, and family‑friendly communication.
The first visit is typically short and geared toward comfort and familiarity. We review your child’s health history, perform an oral exam of their gums, teeth and jaw, and answer your questions. In many cases we might also begin gentle cleaning or monitoring and will walk you through the process step by step.
